Julio Jean teaches the traditional dance forms of Haiti with roots in West Africa and the South American Amazon, including the undulating movements of Yanvalu, the powerful precision of Nago, and the grace and beauty of the Kongo dance. Students journey to the nanm (“soul” in Haitian Kreyol) through the dances, songs, rhythms, and rituals. Each class includes an invigorating warm-up to build strength and flexibility, across the floor combinations and spirit-lifting choreographies.
