Dancewave Company II (DCII) is a pre-professional performing company designed to challenge and inspire the next generation of young dancers. DC II follows the same educational model as Dancewave Company I, but requires less rehearsal time and technical proficiency.
REPERTORY AND CURRENT GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS
DC II enjoys a rich array of opportunities to experience exemplary works of art, beginning with the opportunity to learn original pieces of modern choreography under the mentorship of some of NYC’s top emerging choreographers. DC II has performed the works of Christal Brown (INSPIRIT Dance Company), Dušan Týnek Dance Theatre, Astrid Von Ussar, Andrea Woods, Sydney Skybetter, Jamal Jackson, Elisa Monte, Nicole Wolcott, and Matthew Westerby.
This season (2012-2013), DC II is working with Camille Brown.
REHEARSAL AND TRAINING
Similar to DC I, DC II is structured to ground participants in a diverse repertory and wide stylistic range through direct immersion with established dance professionals. The company works with 2 different guest choreographers in a single season. During this time, guest choreographers and their company members will attend rehearsals, set the piece onto the ensemble and mentor participants. DC II rehearsals take place once a week on Saturdays and are devoted to learning new choreography. Members are encouraged to develop their technique and performance skills and ultimately audition for DC I.
In addition to rehearsals, DC II is required to attend a minimum of two technique classes including: Modern III and Choreolab. It is also strongly encouraged that DC II members take an additional ballet class.
Our programs follow the school year from September to June, divided into 2 semesters lasting 15-17 weeks each. All classes, performances and rehearsals take place outside regularly scheduled school hours. Performances occur throughout the year, including Dancewave’s signature performance series Kids Cafe Festival and our Spring Celebration. The 2012-13 Season has closed. RE/GROUP SESSIONS
Mentorship is a cornerstone of Dancewave’s company programs. One hour every month DC II members participate in our signature “Re/group” sessions, a structured dialogue component led by a dedicated re/group counselor aimed at opening the parameters of self-expression, empathy, team spirit and harmony within the group. Re/group sessions occur once per month after regularly scheduled rehearsals. Participation at re/group sessions is mandatory for all company members.

In order to be eligible for Dancewave Company II you must:
- Be between the ages of 13 and 18 years old
- RSVP and attend an audition (dates listed below)
- Fill out a Dancewave Company Application Form. This form will be emailed to you after reserving your audition spot

Auditions are structured like a regular modern dance class in which the Dancewave staff will observe. The goal of this audition is to see both how you move and who you are. Please arrive 15 minutes early (be mindful of weekend train schedules).
