D-WAVE IN MOTION

D-Wave In Motion: Bringing dance to NYC public schools

Dancewave offers New York City schools the opportunity to craft an Arts in Education program for the specific needs of their school curriculum and students abilities. D-Wave in Motion began in 2003 and has since reached over 30 schools throughout New York City, representing a diverse range of community and socio-economic backgrounds. Dancewave currently runs an average of twelve (12) residencies per year in over fifteen (15) NYC public schools reaching more than 1,200 kids directly through dance programs and an additional 1,500 young people and community members through performances.

Dance workshops, residencies, performance assemblies and professional development workshops are developed using the NYSLS and the Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Experienced teaching artists use these tools to gain a thorough understanding of the arts education goals of school administrators and maximize the outcomes for student participants and staff.

“I can attest first-hand to the great contributions that this program has made to our school’s student body. Bringing dance to city children enlivens their day, excites their minds, and opens their bodies to the joys and rewards of physical exercise and creative expression.”
