  Dedrick Lee Anthony

Originally from Michigan, Dedrick Lee Anthony is a graduate of The Ailey School, the official school of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. He has performed in regional theatre productions such as Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar, Ain't Misbehavin' and Guys & Dolls. Dedrick has had the opportunities to perform in Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, Hawaii, and the Bahamas. He has worked with companies such as School Zone, Norwegian Cruise Lines, ABC, Adidas, L'Oreal Professionnel, and Vogue Italia. Currently residing in New York City, he teaches across the nation and is an award winning choreographer.


Lisa Bostwick
Classes: Ballet I, IIA, IIB, & III, Young Performers Ballet Ensemble

Lisa Bostwick trained at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater and BalletMet. She received a B.S. from Butler University as well as studied at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg Russia. Lisa performed with the Alabama Ballet for seven years and with former MMDG dancer, Teri Weksler, the director of Birmingham’s resident modern dance company Southern Danceworks, for nine years.



Giada Ferrone
Classes: Ballet IV, Ballet IA

Giada Ferrone was born in Florence and is based in New York City. She believes in cultural exchange, artistic expression and in dance as an essential tool in the health of adults and development of children. She is an international Master teacher with an extensive background as Ballet Mistress, choreographer, producer and performer. Ms. Ferrone has invested the past 10 years in creating her own, unique ballet training program, which combines her early European training with her most recent American experiences. This training program is curriculum based and produces dancers with clean, unaffected technique and strong work ethics. Her choreography has been presented at Purchase University, Saint Mark's Church, Hofstra University, Theatre of the Riverside Church, Rose Theatre at Lincoln Center, Peridance and the Construction Company.  Ms. Ferrone is an adjunct dance professor at both Tisch School of the Arts in NYC and Hofstra University in Hempstead and guest teaches in Festival and Colleges across Europe.


Maria Hanley

Maria F. Hanley grew up in small town Corry, Pennsylvania and moved to NYC in 2005 where she now resides. She has danced since she was 3 and always knew she wanted to inspire children dance. She has studied genres which include ballet, tap, and modern dance but spends most of her days teaching energetic and creative children and baby classes .


Maria holds a Master’s degree in dance education (2007) from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree in dance performance from Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania (2005). An advocate for early childhood dance education, Maria is currently a movement and yoga specialist at York Avenue Preschool on the Upper East Side, a creative movement and tap teacher at Mark Morris Dance Group, and teaches early childhood movement classes at Dancewave Center, both in Brooklyn, NY.  Maria also designs and teaches ballet and movement programs for the young families division at the Jewish Community Center in Manhattan. Maria has been a teaching artist and collaborator for New York City Ballet education programs for the past 3 years and has enjoyed offering dance to elementary students around the boroughs. Recently she completed 30 hours of kids yoga teacher training and is CPR and First Aid Certified.


Maria is also the creator of Maria’s Movers, a program that offers dance, movement and yoga classes to boys and girls ages 2-5 years old around New York City. Maria’s Movers began in 2008 and has been growing every day! Author of the blog Move. Create. Educate. Maria shares her innovative ideas for teaching young dancers with growing imaginations.

Maria has been selected to serve on the Dance/NYC Youth Advisory Committee for 2010/2011.

Jamal Jackson
Dancewave Company II Fall 2011 Choreographer

Jamal Jackson was born in Brooklyn, New York and began his formal studies of movement with the Harlem based Batoto Yetu Dance Company. His pursuit led him to Brown University in Providence, where he received the Weston Award for his contribution to the Fusion Dance Company and New Works/World Traditions African Dance Company. Jamal has studied with Michelle Bach-Coulibaly, Seydou Coulibaly, and Fred Benjamin and worked under Mba and Bisar in Mali, West Africa. Jamal has choreographed for the New York Arts Festival and Inaya Day, and performed with Ballet International Africans for two seasons as a principal dancer. In 2004 he founded the Jamal Jackson Dance Company. The company went on to perform United We Stand at the Hudson Guild Theater, Dance New Amsterdam, Mo Pitkins, and for Jennifer Muller/The Works series. Jamal has created work for the Diversity in Dance Project at The Yard featuring Urban Bush Women and the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company and has returned to Batoto Yetu Dance Company as the Assistant Artistic Director. Vanessa Martinez de Baņos
Winter Workshop: Modern Jazz 

Vanessa Martinez de Baños is recognized as a contemporary/jazz/tap dancer and teacher and resident choreographer for the Spanish musical theatre production company Tela-Katola (Tick Tick BOOM!";  “I Love You, You're Perfect …Now Change”) Primarily trained in NY, Vanessa was honoured with a scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Vanessa can be found on teaching faculties in the US, Spain and Mexico and on judging faculty for the Lehigh Valley Dance Alliance in Pennsylvania.As a dancer she can be seen both in New York and overseas, dancing in contemporary jazz and tap companies such as DoubleTake Co (assistant director), BalaSole Dance Co., The Little Opera Theater of NY, [The] Movement Initiative, Acrodance S.L., J.T Lotus Dance Co.; Bemoved, or for choreographers such as Germaul Barnes, Guillém Alonso, Eva Sánchez, Ashley Carter and Lynn Schwab performing  at Tap City, The Ailey Theater, Gerald W. Lynch Theater, Webster Hall, Teatro la Tea, and Baryshnikov Arts Center. She has performed as a dancer, model or actress for international brands and commercials with El Pais newspaper, Ursus Vodka, KDDance, Lush Cosmetics/Gorilla Perfumes, channel Tele5, Fuse TV, and also in music videos  Most recently she has been seen dancing  at Tribeca Performing Arts Center for "Where Dreams Become Reality", and for the X-Box/Kinect event in Times Square with NeYo and Lady Sovereign. Also as a trained actress, she has been seen in several TV and theatre productions and commercials, feature film “The Ryde of Tom & Valkyrie”, and can be seen dancing alongside Justin Timberlake in the upcoming movie "Friends With Benefits." Meghan McCoy

Meghan McCoy is a New York City based artist.  She grew up in Wisconsin, where she received her BFA in Dance from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and then packed up and moved to NYC.  She currently performs with Becky Radway Dance Projects and iN.D.dance/Nicole Durfee and Dancers, and has had the pleasure of performing with Nora Stephens / noranewdance, Jin-Wen Yu Dance, Eva Dean Dance, Esse Aficionado, and Katherine Keifer Stark.  She is a founding member of Collective Dance NY, an organization dedicated to creating performance opportunities for independent artists through financial, administrative, and artistic collaboration.  CDNY has produced three full-length shows, performing to sold-out audiences in both NY and DC.  Her works have been presented at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, WAXworks (Triskelion Arts), and Movement Research Open Performance (DTW).  Meghan graduated in May 2009 with an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College.

Andrea Miller

Andrea Miller
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Andrea Miller is a graduate of the Juilliard School where she received her BFA in Dance. Upon graduating, Andrea joined Ohad Naharin!s Ensemble Batsheva in Israel to perform the works of Naharin and Sharon Eyal, resident choreographer. Andrea has also performed as a guest with Cedar Lake, Limon Dance Company, and The Buglisi Dance Theatre. In 2006 Miller returned to NYC to establish Gallim Dance, a contemporary dance company. In 2009, Miller was selected for Dance Magazine!s “25 to Watch,” and two years later, Gallim was featured on the cover of April 2011 Dance Magazine. She has been awarded the 2009 Princess Grace Foundation Fellowship in Choreography and 2010 Princess Grace Foundation USA Works in Progress Award. She is also the recipient of the Youth America Grand Prix award for Emerging Choreographers and the Mariam McGlone Emerging Choreographers Award from Wesleyan University. Andrea teaches a dance class that is deeply informed by her unique experience as a dancer with Ohad Naharin’s Ensemble Batsheva and by her own movement investigation as a choreographer and dancer.




Pia Monique Murray
PS 315 African Residency

PIA MONIQUE MURRAY is originally from Brooklyn, New York and has been dancing since the age of three.  While majoring in Dance and African American Studies at Oberlin College, she had the opportunity to perform Dianne McIntyre’s Daughter of a Buffalo Soldier with Cleveland Dance Theater. She studied dance forms of the African Diaspora with Adenike Sharpley and travelled to the Gambia, West Africa to learn Guinean traditional dance with Alasane Sumak of Fatala African Ballet. Pia is currently studying traditional Ivorian dance with Vado Diomande and performing with his group Kotchegna Dance Company. She also performs alongside electropop artist Tecla Esposito and with Rakia Seaborn’s RAKIA! Pia works administratively with acclaimed dance company Urban Bush Women and choreographers Nora Chipaumire and Paloma McGregor. She is the Founding Artistic Director of the Pia Monique Murray Dance Collective (PMMDC), a multidisciplinary collective of artists. Her original choreographed series Fela Suite has been performed at LaMama E.T.C. and Dixon Place among other New York City venues.

 Nicola Penfold

Nicola Penfold trained at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance in London and has since gained her qualified teacher status with Bath Spa University in the U.K. Nicola is a dancer and education facilitator for Influx Dance Company, which has been touring since 2001 with its own choreography as well as commissioned work from artists including Yael Flexer and Bawren Tavaziva. Nicola's artistic style is informed by her background in modern dance, ballet and yoga as well as world arts. Nicola has performed and taught in Europe, India, Thailand, The Gambia as well as here in the U.S where Influx Dance is creating a new piece.

After a BFA in Music: Voice Performance from Georgia State University, and an MFA in Dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, ChristinaNoel Reaves pursues dance and voice performance and instruction, choreography, and music composition. In addition to singing in Operas and Musicals, she has had the privilege of dancing for David Dorfman, Doug Elkins, Ivy Baldwin, Curt Haworth, Christopher Williams, Gary Abbott, and Candess Giayan and Melanie Lynch-Blanchard of Zoetic Dance Ensemble-Atlanta, with whom Christina Noel was a dance instructor to children and adults.


Criscia Richardson
Classes: Musical Theater Dance

Criscia Richardson is a dance and choreography graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is an alumna of the Long Island School of the Arts. She has made recent appearances on “So You Think You Can Dance”, season 5 and season 6 as a Las Vegas Finalist. She has also been on shows such as “True Life,” I’m a Stepper," “One Life to Live” and Starr X’ed Lovers, the musical. Criscia has also had the joy of performing at the magical Walt Disney World, opening “A Totally Tomorrow Land X-Mas.” She had toured various cities with Making the Band’s Donnie Klang, and sailed the seas as a dancer on board the Carnival Cruise Lines. She is now proud to represent her home town, New York as a Knicks City Dancer.



Ella Rosewood
Classes: Creative Ballet I

Ella Rosewood is a life-long mover, choreographer and educator. Born and raised in Wisconsin, she graduated with honors from the University of Wisconin-Madison in 2010 with dual degrees in Dance and Elementary Education.  While still in college, she formed her own company, Ella Rosewood Dance.  Since then, she has show her work nationally in NY, WI, MN, and internationally in Taipei, Taiwan.  Ella has been teaching dance to all ages for over six years and had the privilege to attended the 92nd Street Y’s Dance Education Lab and the American Dance Festival on full scholarship.  Her educational outreach programs created in conjunction with her solo show “Second Skin” were featured in the May/June 2011 Inspiration issue of Dance Studio Life Magazine.  Now based in New York, Ella is the Education Coordinator for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (New York Live Arts) and heads the social media for Heidi Latsky Dance.   She dances with JoAnna Mendl Shaw’s Equus Projects: Dancing with Horses and absolutely loves sharing her passion for movement.  www.ellarosewooddance.com



Nancy S. Smith

Nancy S. Smith
, MA, has been teaching dance and movement for nearly 15 years. Originally from coastal North Carolina, Nancy currently resides in New York City where she instructs classes in ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, choreography and creative movement/young movers.  She holds both a BA and an MA in dance education and proudly graduated magna cum laude from New York University in 2005, with an emphasis on dance in higher education.  She is a recent graduate of Harkness Dance Center’s DEL (Dance Education Laboratory) program and certified instructor. Nancy is also an active member of NDEO, the National Dance Education Organization. She serves as a faculty member for the 92nd St Y, Peridance Capezio Center, Brooklyn Ballet and Dancewave, engaging in outreach endeavors through dance. Nancy is a member of Kathryn Wilkening and Dancers and has recently performed works at Ailey Citigroup Theater, Manhattan Movement and Arts Center and Spoke the Hub. A lifelong yoga student and devotee, Nancy recently completed a 225-hour Hatha teacher-training program, where she will soon be registered with the National Yoga Alliance.


Laura Stein

Laura Stein
joined Dancewave as the Director of Education & Production in November 2010.  She has studied and taught hip hop and street jazz for over ten years in New York, Los Angeles, London, Madrid and Cambodia.  Laura is currently performing and choreographing for Precision Dance NYC, a Brooklyn-based dance collective founded by Wesleyan University alumni.  She loves bringing beginner dance classes to the masses through her Hip Hop Workout class at Dancewave.



Nathan Trice

Nathan Trice
is the Artistic Director/Founder of Nathan Trice/Rituals Project-By-Project Dance Theater based in New York City. Nathan began training in 1988 under the strict direction of Aulani Chun in San Diego, California at Mesa College. He was a participant in the Alvin Ailey certificate program and since completion has worked with Momix, Complexions, Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theater, Kevin Iega, Jeff Donald Byrd/The Group, Danzaiza, Burnet Sugar Arkistra, Forces of Nature Dance Co., and continues to freelance with an array of artists.  In 2004 Nathan was invited to Laguardia High School Dance Department as a resident guest artist where he choreographs and teaches the technique and approach to his style of movement. The high school residency essentially inspired Nathan to develop and create an annual three-week summer intensive program in New York City. Since its 2007 inception the summer intensive was designed for students that are interested in approaching dance/movement, theater and vocalization from a creative and exploratory perspective.  For the past 8 years, Nathan has continued to serve as a professor of Dance at Long Island University’s Dance Department in Brooklyn New York as well as receiving commissions from the Ailey II Company, Dallas Black Dance Theater, The Herman Lavern Theater Group, Bermuda Dance Company, The Harkness Dance Festival, Aaron Davis Hall E-Moves Festival and numerous universities, colleges and performing arts high schools.



Matthew Westerby

Matthew Westerby is originally from the UK and trained at Laban, London. Since moving to New York, he has danced for Nai-Ni Chen, Risa Jaroslow, Dusan Tynek, Peter Kyle, Sue Hogan, Bronwen MacArthur, Tze Chun, Kenny Larson, Covenant Ballet Theatre and Roland Gebhardt's The Only Tribe. He has been choreographing in London and New York since 2000, and formed Matthew Westerby Company in 2008. The Company has led the successful Project Poetry Live! (CT) for the past two seasons, and recently presented a sold-out New York season at University Settlement. His works have been presented at the The Place (London), Laban (London), the Evolve Festival (Tarrytown, NY), Dance New Amsterdam, the College of Staten Island,  Naugatuck Valley Community College (Connecticut), WAX Works, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Movement Research, 60 x 60 and the International Contemporary Dance Performance Festival (Poland). He was commissioned by Dancewave Company II, Covenant Ballet Theatre and Naugatuck Valley College Dance Dept. in the 2010-11 season.
