An instructor of movement for over thirty years in colleges & professional dance studios in NYC, Texas and Chicago, including DNA, Ballet Chicago, Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, and Lou Conte/Hubbard Street Dance, Mary now works regularly with NYC’s wellness and dance community regularly in injuryprevention/rehabilitation. A faculty member of Peridance, Gibney, and Pilates Reforming NY, with the BA and MA from Columbia University in Dance (with an Economics minor thrown in for her business side!), Mary always has both sides of the brain working – that led her to a Ph.D. in Dance Education from NYU’s School of Education. A perpetual student, Mary is certified in multiple dance techniques, including Simonson dance technique, and teacher certified in Evans/Bartenieff technique. A BASI full apparatus (2008) Pilates for Dancers Specialist, with the PMA certification as well (2010), Mary has been a Pilates addict herself for over thirty years! Mary’s career is dual-fold; assisting both dancers and all humans in technique improvement to decrease rate of injury; and increase teacher knowledge in anatomy, kinesiology and movement analysis, for safer teaching from the start! Her lecture presentations include multiple works at Performing Arts Medical Association (PAMA); NDEO (where she was Treasurer of the Board for two terms), NYSDEA and ADG, and she has been invited twice by PAMA as the Dance Research Specialist for a ten-day research tour of Cuba.
