Summer Dance Programs

Registration opens February 3!


Dancewave offers need-based scholarships to students for its Summer Programs. Our application process is simple: complete the online application below, submit a copy of the parent/guardian’s latest tax return, and attend a technique class at Dancewave (only if the student is new to Dancewave). Ages 4-6
Explore your creativity through ballet and modern dance! Our half-day summer camp introduces young dancers to the fundamentals of ballet and modern technique with an emphasis on creative expression and imaginative play.

Dates: July 6-10, 2020 | 9:00am-1:00pm
Tuition: $350/1 week | Sibling discount – 10% off!


Ages 6-8 & 9-11
Our full day week-long camps encourage young dancers to connect and grow through movement, music and visual arts. Students dive into the foundations of ballet and modern technique while exploring musicality, choreography and improvisation. Students will develop an original musical composition (with guest artist from Brooklyn Music Factory) as well as props, costumes and scenery to showcase at our end of week performance!

Dates: July 13-31, 2020 | 9:00am-3:00pm + Final performance 3:00-3:30 (Fridays only)
Tuition: $525/1 week | $945/2 weeks | $1340/3 weeks

Kids will enjoy additional games, crafts, and activities from 3:00-6:00pm Monday-Thursday for just $40/day or $120/week

Summer Dance Intensives

11-13 & 13-16 Year Olds
Develop artistry in dance through dynamic movement and performance! Summer Intensives offer young dancers the chance to expand their learning and love of dance through a diverse menu of dance styles. Our week-long program supports dancers in strengthening their technique, coordination, flexibility and musicality. Ballet and Modern technique classes incorporate center work, combinations and choreography. Afternoon offerings include Choreography, Hip Hop and African. Advanced Summer Dance Intensive

Ages 16-18
Advanced Summer Dance Intensive (ASDI) motivates seasoned dancers to challenge themselves and elevate their practice. Personalized instruction hones artistry and expression through in-depth improvisational, partnering and compositional techniques. Dancers will additionally gain essential career skills for auditions and choreographic development.

Gearing up for auditions? Join us a day early and add on our Sunday Solo-Making workshop to receive individualized guidance and support from Douglas Gillespie! July 16 from 2:00-5:00pm. Also available as a one-day drop-in workshop for $75.

ASDI Instructors:

Douglas Gillespie (Modern Technique, Improvisation/Repertory, Partnering) is a Brooklyn-based Dance Artist. He teaches at colleges and dance centers around the world, most recently at The Juilliard School, NYU Tisch Summer Program, Mark Morris Dance Group, National Taiwan University of the Arts and is on faculty at Gibney Dance Center in New York. Gillespie is an avid dance maker most recently choreographing for Moving Current Dance Collective, Doug Varone DEVICES workshop and Sarasota Contemporary Dance. Gillespie has also created his own student commissions for Hillsborough Community College, Cleveland State University, University of Florida and Santa Fe College; two of his works have premiered at American College Dance Association. Gillespie has premiered two international self-choreographed solo projects, most recently for Teoria de Gravidad Company in Monterrey, Mexico in August 2018 and Taipei, Taiwan November 2015. Gillespie is an originating member and creative contributor throughout Kate Weare Company’s first decade. Gillespie has performed in Punchdrunk Emursive’s Sleep No More and Third Rail Projects’ Then She Fell. Gillespie was born in San Diego, raised in Jacksonville and received his BFA in Dance from Florida State University in 2005.

Alison Mixon (Ballet) Alison Mixon’s passion for dance began as a scholarship student at the School of Cleveland San Jose Ballet, School of American Ballet, Chautauqua Institution, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, and The Juilliard School where she received her B.F.A. in Dance. She has performed for dance, opera, and musical theater companies nationwide, such as: Paramount Pictures, NBC/Universal, Disneyland Entertainment, The Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, Dodgers Theatrical, Music Circus, TheatreWorks of Silicon Valley, and Asolo Repertory Theatre.

Past ASDI choreographers include: Gallim Dance, Kate Weare Company, David Dorfman Dance, Antonio Brown and more.
